In recent years, Dana White has promoted Power Slap alongside the UFC, and now he may soon add a third venture to his portfolio with a move into boxing promotion. White, who has long hinted at an entry into the sport, recently shared that “big announcements” related to his interest in boxing could be coming soon.
On a recent quarterly earnings call, TKO Group Holdings CEO Mark Shapiro commented on White’s potential boxing plans, suggesting it could be a growth opportunity. Shapiro noted that White, alongside WWE president Nick Khan, has significant experience and connections in boxing. If they proceed, Shapiro said they would likely do so with a partner who would fund the venture rather than through mergers or acquisitions.
“At its worst, it’s broken. We think the sport presents an interesting growth opportunity for us. Dana White, and I should mention (WWE president) Nick Khan. Have deep expertise and longstanding relationships in what they call the sweet science, otherwise known as boxing,” said Shapiro.
“If we were to get involved in boxing. We would expect to do so in an organic way, not (mergers and acquisitions) way. So, we’re not writing a cheque. If we launched the vertical at any time. We kind of see it as doing it with a partner that would fund it and pay us to operate.”
Dana White Hints At Boxing Partnership With Turki Alalshikh
Dana White, known for transforming the UFC into a billion-dollar brand and launching Power Slap, now hints at a new venture: a boxing league with Saudi Arabia’s Turki Alalshikh. After the success of the UFC event with Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority in June, White’s latest moves are causing concern among boxing organizations.
“I’ve been talking about getting involved in boxing for a long time. And then every time I get off the phone with a boxing guy. I go, ‘Why in the world would I want to do this?’ Most of them are not good people,” White said in a Vegas PBS interview.
