Even as the head of the UFC, Dana White faces challenges he can’t entirely fix. One of his long-standing frustrations has been the fighter rankings. From Jon Jones to other top athletes, he’s repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with how the system works. Despite his ongoing complaints, Dana refuses to directly involve himself in managing the rankings. He believes that stepping into the process could create conflicts and ultimately be bad for business.
After the recent DWCS, as usual, White faced numerous questions when he came to the presser. Since he had just voiced his frustration over Khalil Rountree Jr. not getting a rank boost despite a strong performance against Alex Pereira, he was asked why he doesn’t get involved in the rankings. White explained that it would make things worse for the company because of potential biases.
In his words, “No we can’t do it, I don’t think it’s right that we would do the rankings. No matter how unbiased you tried to be it’s impossible and I’ll be honest with you there are some fighters I don’t like, there’s fighters I really like and there’s things that are good for business and there’s thing that you might think I don’t want that in our hands at all.”
Pointing out that everyone has biases, White noted that having a third party handle the rankings is the safest approach. However, he also mentioned that even the person in charge of rankings has some biases, suggesting that AI could be a solution or that he’ll figure something out.
Dana White Likes The Idea Of Conor McGregor vs. Dan Hooker
There’s always excitement in the UFC about McGregor’s return. With Michael Chandler finally moving on from ‘The Notorious’ to face Charles Oliveira, it looks like McGregor has a new target. He recently stated that he wants to fight Dan Hooker in Saudi Arabia, next year. When discussing this, the UFC CEO shared his thoughts on the matchup and expressed that he liked the idea.
At the post-event press conference for the Dana White Contender Series, White was questioned about the potential fight between Hooker and McGregor. He reacted favorably, noting that it would be an exciting matchup. In his words, “That would be a great fight. I like that fight.”
