Last night in MSG started out great as The Rock came out with the BMF title to kick off the title fight between Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal.
It would not end like fans wanted it to as a medical doctor ended the bout between Masvidal (35-13 MMA, 12-6 UFC) and Diaz (20-12 MMA, 15-10 UFC) on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden due to Nate Diaz’s eye.
Dana White had no problem with that stoppage upon seeing Diaz backstage.
According to White, the lacerations around Diaz’s eye were much more severe up close. As tough as Diaz is, White thinks the fight should have been stopped.
“As I just went back and talked to Nate Diaz and looked at Nate Diaz’s face, his eyebrow is literally flipping over like this,” White said. “And he has another cut right underneath it. The fight probably should have been stopped. Could Nate Diaz keep going? Did Nate Diaz want to keep going? Yes. That’s why we love Nate Diaz. But he probably shouldn’t have.”
He even shared a photo of the damage.

Yeah, I think the right decision was made for the overall health of Diaz and his eye.
