The UFC skyrockets in popularity year after year, attracting millions of new fans who become hooked on the sport. Dana White expands the sport’s reach as fresh talent emerges worldwide and events take place internationally. Recently, ahead of the Brandon Moreno vs. Amir Albazi event, the UFC CEO shared insights on why this matchup is not only exciting but also historic for sports fans, even setting a new record in the process.
On his Instagram, White revealed that UFC Edmonton set a new record for the highest gate in North America, and it’s bringing some exciting rule changes. For the first time ever, the 12 to 6 elbow strike is officially on the table, and that old rule allowing fighters to keep one hand on the ground for protection is out the window. This is a game changer, and fans can expect a wild night as fighters embrace the new rules.
In his words, “So tomorrow’s fight night breaks the record for North American Gate for a fight night. And for those of you watching tomorrow, tomorrow the rules change. The twelve to six elbow is now legal, and the ground fighter rule where you put one hand on the ground is gone. So you can’t do that anymore, and 12 to 6 is legal.”
