The debate over the greatest MMA fighter of all time never seems to end. But when Dana White weighs in, people listen. Recently, White stirred the pot by naming Jon Jones as one of his top four fighters for the UFC’s Mount Rushmore. This choice raised eyebrows and sparked heated discussions among fans.
During the recent DWCS post-fight press conference, a reporter talked about the time when Jones was an upcoming fighter in the UFC. He further pointed out that many newer fans missed Jones’ prime years. White didn’t shy away from addressing this head-on.
“Numbers don’t lie, and what this guy has done and what he’s accomplished and what he’s achieved…You know, when you talk about the guys who helped elevate the company and the sport and everything else, you can’t deny that Jon Jones is the greatest of all time,” said White.
The reporter remembered the time when Jones took on the likes of Shogun Rua, Lyoto Machida, and Rashad Evans. These were the best fighters in the UFC, and Jones dispatched them all. White agreed to all of this.
This corroborated with what White admitted later. He revealed that the UFC’s fanbase grew a whopping 69% during the Covid-19 pandemic. This growth means many newer fans did not witness Jones’ dominant run firsthand. They only seen his recent, less frequent appearances in the cage.

White’s choices raised eyebrows among fans. Some questioned the omission of other greats like Anderson Silva or Khabib Nurmagomedov. But White stood firm in his selections. And Jones reacted to this honor from the boss himself.
“Big compliment from the boss, he’s not talking about the best fighters. He’s talking about the fighters who changed the game,” said Jones via his Instagram story.
This acknowledgment from White was particularly noteworthy given his history with Jones. The two haven’t always been on the same page, and their relationship has been rocky at times. Yet, White consistently defends Jones as the greatest of all time.
