Dana White predicts that UFC 306 could break the previous gate records, as it is one of the most hyped events in UFC. In comparison, it’s been tough to hit such high numbers without a star like Conor McGregor. However, fighters like Alex Pereira and Sean O’Malley have recently made their mark in the top 10 highest gate records. Now that UFC 306, also known as UFC Noche, is set to take place on Mexican Independence Day, there’s a chance White’s prediction might come true. Let’s review the past gate records and see if this event could break them.
The highest gate record was set at UFC 205 in 2016. That event headlined Conor McGregor’s fight with Eddie Alvarez, which generated $17.7 million in gate revenue. To this day, no other event has surpassed this figure. However, White now predicts that the gate revenue for UFC Noche at the Sphere could reach between $25 million and $27 million.
The main event of UFC Noche is a bantamweight title fight between champion Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili. In Suga’s previous title defense at UFC 299, the gate revenue was $14,142,904. Given the high previous gate, there’s a really good chance that the UFC Noche event could break gate records. However, the UFC is facing a big challenge. Mexican boxing star Canelo Alvarez has a fight scheduled for the same day.
Canelo Alvarez’s Fight vs. Dana White’s Major UFC Event
On September 14, Las Vegas will buzz with excitement as two major events take place during the Mexican Independence Day weekend. Canelo will defend his super middleweight title against Edgar Berlanga, while UFC 306 will take place at the Las Vegas Sphere venue.
This UFC event will also be the first to have a title partner, thanks to a new deal with Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority. It will be called “Riyadh Season Noche UFC.” However, Turki Alalshikh has even suggested that Canelo’s fight might not match the hype around UFC 306.
