The UFC has always been about punches, kicks, and the occasional ground game. But now, Dana White is rolling out the mats for something completely different. In a move that’s got the martial arts world buzzing, the UFC has stepped into the pure grappling game by signing BJJ superstar and former ONE champion Mikey Musumeci.
White dropped a bombshell announcement on Instagram that had BJJ fans doing celebratory forward rolls. The UFC has signed its first-ever exclusive Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu contract with none other than “Darth Rigatoni” himself.
“BOOOOOOM!!!! We are about to take BJJ to a WHOLE OTHER LEVEL. @mikeymusumeci,” captioned White on the Instagram post.
This isn’t just any regular signing, though. Musumeci brings some serious credentials to the table. He’s been unbeaten at 135 pounds for eight years. The 28-year-old grappling wizard also happens to be a five-time IBJJF world champion in the black belt division.
Dana White isn’t stopping here, either. He’s been cooking up this BJJ program for the past year, and Musumeci is just the appetizer. He revealed a plethora of upcoming signings that will turn the UFC Fight Pass Invitational into something bigger than anyone expected. Musumeci won’t have to wait long to show off his skills under the UFC banner. He’s set to face Felipe Machado at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 9 on December 5th at the Apex facility in Las Vegas.
