Money, fame, and legacy. These are the things people, especially fighters, are constantly pursuing. One of the best to ever do it is the former UFC double champion, Conor McGregor. But UFC CEO Dana White compared him to another former shining star, former being the main word here.
In a recent interview with Shaquille O’Neal on The Big Podcast, White answered the question about Conor McGregor and his potential bout against Max Holloway. The UFC CEO didn’t just answer the question, but also revealed the difficulties with getting the Irish star back in the Octagon.
“The Conor thing is, much like Ronda. I mean, if you think, if you look at Ronda, so many opportunities fell on Ronda because of who she was, which ended up being her downfall. Right? It’s just the money and everything else…Ronda went from living in her car to being so extremely wealthy. She’s got like 3 or 4 houses and all these things. And Conor McGregor is 10 times that. When that kind of money becomes, you know, involved in the fight business, it’s tough, man. It’s tough.” White stated.
Both fighters skyrocketed to stardom and became household names beyond the octagon. They brought mainstream attention to the UFC, filling arenas and dominating headlines. But with great success came great distractions. White believed that the flood of opportunities and wealth became a double-edged sword that swayed them away from fighting.
For Rousey, it led to a career shift from fighting to professional wrestling and acting. McGregor, on the other hand, has been absent from the cage for three years. He has dipped his toes in numerous business ventures. An injury derailed his planned comeback against Michael Chandler. But whether he will return to the Octagon still remains a mystery.
Dana White Unsure If Conor McGregor Will Fight Again
McGregor is one of the most popular athletes, not just in the UFC but in all of the sports. But White isn’t so sure about the future of the ‘Notorious.’ This admission came after McGregor’s highly anticipated comeback against Chandler at UFC 303 was scrapped.
In a recent interview with Jim Rome, White cast doubt on Conor McGregor’s return to the octagon. The Irish superstar hasn’t fought since breaking his leg in July 2021. White’s comments about the ‘Notorious’ have added fuel to the speculation fire around his return inside the Octagon.

“Conor’s going to be 36 in July. He’s got plenty of money, and I don’t ever think that guys like that – Jon Jones, who knows? Maybe he’ll fight again. Maybe he won’t. Conor McGregor – maybe he’ll fight again, maybe he won’t. You never know when you’re going to see them again.” White stated.
Dana White noted that wealth and age can significantly impact a fighter’s motivation. Conor McGregor‘s bank account remains one of the biggest factors in his potential retirement. However, ‘Mystic Mac’ expressed his desire to return to fighting form and be fully healed through a statement he released. Whether he returns or not still remains to be seen.
