Dana White has dropped a major update that might concern Sean Strickland. The UFC middleweight division is currently looking a bit cluttered. With the title changing hands multiple times in a short period, things have been quite complicated. After Strickland lost his championship to Dricus Du Plessis, Strickland eyed for an immediate rematch. However, that was not to be as White pitted Du Plessis against his old foe, Israel Adesanya.
Now that Du Plessis was able to thwart the danger of ‘The Last Stylebender’, Strickland became immediately interested. However, according to Dana White, nothing is confirmed as of now. With UFC 308 witnessing a bar burner between Robert Whittaker and Khamzat Chimaev, the possibility of Strickland challenging for the title again became bleak.
Speaking to Main Event TV recently, the UFC Head Honcho reflected on the middleweight division scenario. He said, “Let’s see how the fight plays out. We gotta see how it plays out before we start talking about jumping lines and who would get the next title shot… In this division, [Whittaker vs Chimaev] is the baddest fight that you could possibly make right now. Whoever wins, it’s a good thing for them.”
Now, while White did not say anything definitive, he certainly gave a hint. As a matter of fact, both Whittaker and Chimaev are worthy contenders for a title shot. While Chimaev is undefeated in the UFC, Whittaker has made an impressive turnaround to come back into the title picture. And Strickland might have sensed this beforehand. For he already asked White for his rematch.
Sean Strickland Makes A Case For His Rematch
Strickland had a short love affair with his middleweight title. After beating Adesanya, ‘Tarzan’ immediately lost it to Du Plessis at UFC 297. However, Strickland has been itching to get his hands on Du Plessis since then. Trying to reclaim the belt, ‘Tarzan’ had waited for quite a long time. But he is desperate at the moment. Sensing the impending threat that looms in the form of Khamzat Chimaev and Robert Whittaker, Strickland asked for his rematch to Du Plessis.

Taking to his Instagram a few months back, Strickland wrote, “You ain’t ducking me no matter how much you try in interviews! Dana said I’m next in line…. We’re bringing that belt back to America.”
Thus, it is evident that Sean Strickland is facing the heat. Now, it is up to him to grab the opportunity and prove himself once he gets his rematch granted with the UFC middleweight champion.
