March 4, 2023 – that is the last time Jon Jones entered the Octagon to win the heavyweight title. Even after over a year of inactivity, he still remains in the conversation for the best pound-for-pound fighter. Many might disagree, but not UFC CEO Dana White, who has once again thrown his considerable weight behind the heavyweight champion.
White’s unwavering support for Jones comes at a time when rising stars like Alex Pereira make the potential changing of the guard a possibility. Despite these murmurs, the UFC boss wasn’t budging an inch from his position, as evident in a recent interview on the Pat MacAfee show.
“Everybody on the internet’s stupid. Anybody who thinks Jon Jones isn’t the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world should NEVER be discussing fighting EVER,” said White.
This declaration comes as Jones prepares for his highly anticipated title defense against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309. The bout marks Jones’ return to the octagon after a hiatus due to a torn pectoral tendon injury.
But despite the UFC head honcho’s backing, the pound-for-pound list shows a different story. Jones, who used to dominate the rankings, has now slipped to third place. The lightweight champion Islam Makhachev stands at #1, and the light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira recently slid to #2. This obviously is not a list White wants to see, and he will hope that it changes soon when Jones returns.
Jon Jones Skeptic Over Dana White’s Resurfaced Comments About Dominick Reyes Fight
A new controversy recently emerged that has caused even the heavyweight champion Jones to raise his eyebrows. The bone of contention was a resurfaced clip of White claiming that Dominick Reyes deserved the win in their 2020 bout at UFC 247. But Jones isn’t buying it. In fact, he is pointing the finger at an unexpected culprit: artificial intelligence.

Jones responded to the clip on Instagram with a single word: “AI.” It seems the champ believes the clip was nothing more than a digital fabrication, a product of the increasingly AI-driven world.
This disbelief from Jones isn’t without reason. After all, Dana White has been one of his most vocal supporters throughout his career. Just recently, White proclaimed Jones as “the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world.” With such ringing endorsements, it’s no wonder Jones is skeptical of any contradictory statements attributed to the UFC boss. Whether the clip is genuine or not, one thing is certain: Jones continues to be a lightning rod for controversy, even as he approaches the twilight of his career.
