UFC and Dana White have faced numerous accusations, from not paying fighters fairly to other controversies. One popular theory among fans is that White plays favorites, fast-tracking fighters he supports. Time and again, the UFC head honcho has dismissed this theory. Meanwhile, after repeated questions about why Magomed Ankalaev didn’t receive a title shot against Alex Pereira, he finally addressed the issue, promising that Ankalaev would be next in line for Pereira, depending on the results of UFC 307.
In a recent interview with Kevin Iole, Dana White faced a barrage of questions from fans, ranging from Conor McGregor’s return to various other topics. Given the buzz around the Ankalaev vs. Pereira fight, Iole didn’t hesitate to ask White about it. The UFC boss explained that Ankalaev had been booked for a fight well before Pereira, which is why they didn’t face off at the upcoming event.
He also suggested that while it’s not happening right now, a matchup between the two is definitely in the cards for the future. In his words, “Listen, Ankalaev is ranked no. 2 If he goes out there and puts on unbelievable performance and Alex is still the champion (after UFC 307) then he is the next.”
There’s no doubt that Rountree is on a hot winning streak, having knocked out four of his five opponents in brutal fashion. With Ankalaev not in the picture, this matchup is the best option available. Meanwhile, the winner of their upcoming fight will determine who gets the next shot at the title.
Brendan Schaub Champions Khalil Rountree for Alex Pereira Showdown Over Magomedov Ankalaev
Despite UFC fans pushing back, Schaub is all in on Rountree facing Pereira. On his Thiccc Boy YouTube channel, he pointed out that Rountree is on a five-fight win streak. Adding to that, he ridicules Ankalaev for being underwhelming since his title shot, which ended in a boring draw against Jan Blachowicz at UFC 282.
He added, “How did that go for Ankalaev? Is that the most exciting fight you’ve ever seen? Did you see what Rountree did to Walker? What are you complaining about?”
