Diego Lopes defeated Dan Ige by unanimous decision in the co-main event of UFC 303, making it one of the night’s highlights. A last-minute change occurred when Brian Ortega could not compete due to medical issues from his weight cut, which made the fight even more significant. Ige received considerable praise from fans and UFC President Dana White, who rewarded him well for his performance.
Dan Ige’s UFC 303 Payout Triples for Bout Against Diego Lopes
The UFC President is known to generously compensate fighters who agree to take short-notice fights and help save an event. In this case, Ige accepted a fight on very short notice, just 4 hours before the event. He was underprepared for his fight against Lopes, but Ige’s willingness to step up earned him a significant financial reward. In an interview with MMA Junkie, Ige stated that while he may have lost the fight, he still felt like he “won” in other ways. Ige remarked, “In a way, it felt like I won. I won a lot of notoriety, I won fans, I got UFC favor, and it feels good.”
Last week, Dan ‘50K’ Ige achieved what many thought was improbable. After his extremely short-notice fight at UFC 303, Ige boldly called for an unusual MMA bout against one of boxing’s biggest stars. He took to social media and wrote, “Fighting Ryan Garcia at the sphere. No weigh-in. No takedowns.” Ryan Garcia responded quickly and wrote, “Heard a g** ufc fighter called me out to fight at the sphere. Whenever you want. I don’t give a f***.”
Ige certainly earned the purse he received. While a fight between Garcia and Ige at The Sphere for UFC 306 under modified rules seems unlikely, fans are excited about the idea. Although the match is not yet confirmed, fans eagerly anticipate Ige’s next move in the UFC.
