Dan Hooker, the UFC lightweight contender, is a proud Kiwi and Anzac. With an exciting fighting style, Hooker has entertained the masses. The promotion has a PPV event in Perth, Australia, in August. Hooker has been insistent on fighting on the PPV, along with his City Kickboxing teammates.
Hooker currently holds the 11th spot in the UFC lightweight rankings, with sights set on Beneil Dariush and Renato Moicano, ranked 7th and 10th respectively. However, Hooker has allegedly turned down an opportunity to fight the former to fight any comers on the UFC 305 PPV at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.
Dan Hooker wants to fight in front of a crowd
Hooker recently spoke with Combat TV, where he revealed he will be on the UFC 305 PPV. He also confirmed the presence of his teammates, Kai Kara-France and Israel Adesanya, at the event. Moreover, Hooker also revealed he had rejected high-profile events at a later date to be on UFC 305.
“Like, I’ve been doing this so long that yeah, like they were saying, oh, you could wait around and you’ll get, you know, Beneil Dariush on this card a bit later, but it’s like, bro, can you imagine if it’s at the Apex or something like that? I’d rather shoot myself in the foot than fight at the Apex. Like, it’s boring, it’s not why I do it. I do it ’cause I love walking out there in front of 10, 20, 30,000 people and getting that excitement from the fans,” said Hooker.
Hooker was at one point on a slump, winning once in five fights. However, he is now on a two-fight winning streak, the latest against Jalin Turner at UFC 290. Hooker was to fight Bobby Green at UFC Austin. However, after aggravating a hand injury suffered at UFC 290, he pulled out.
Hooker was on the cusp of a title shot in 2020. However, he lost a close fight to Dustin Poirier at UFC Vegas 4. Undisputed title aspirations look dim for the Kiwi, but a BMF title fight can happen if he wins a couple more.
