UFC fans are going off on Twitter following a peculiar ending in a fight in Vegas on Saturday night.
Dan Argueta and Ronnie Lawrence of the bantamweight division fought on the preliminary card of UFC Vegas 75 (also being billed as “UFC on ESPN: Vettori vs. Cannonier”) on Saturday. The bout barely lasted over two minutes, however, due to an incorrect ruling by referee Keith Peterson.
As you can see in the clip below, Peterson incorrectly rules that Lawrence tapped out while Argueta was trying to put him in a chokehold. But it’s clear and obvious that Lawrence never submitted to the maneuver:
After review, it was determined that Lawrence did not tap out, so the decision was ultimately changed to a no contest.
The 29-year-old Argueta is listed at 5-foot-7 and 135 pounds. He entered the fight against Lawrence with a career 9-1-0 record, including two knockout victories and four wins via submission. Saturday marked Argueta’s first fight since UFC Fight Night 217 in January, where he defeated Nick Aguirre.
The 5-foot-8, 135-pound Lawrence entered Saturday with a career record of 8-2-0, with four of those wins coming via knockout. This was Lawrence’s first fight since July 9 of last year, where he lost to Saidyokub Kakhramonov at UFC Fight Night: Dos Anjos vs. Fiziev.
