Islam Makhachev Aims To Win Welterweight Gold Before Retiring
Islam Makhachev, one of the most dominant lightweight champions, has clarified his ambition to achieve double-champ status by targeting the welterweight title in the future. Despite teammate Belal Muhammad currently holding the 170-pound belt, Makhachev remains committed to his goal. Speaking to streamer Adin Ross, Makhachev shared his dream of becoming a two-division champion and emphasized that discussions with their shared manager, Ali Abdelaziz, would determine the path forward.
“This is my dream, but we have Belal there. He’s gonna defend his belt soon. But with Belal, we have the same manager, Ali [Abdelaziz]. We will sit and talk, this is my dream to be double-champ. I don’t want to leave this sport before I take a second belt.”
