Michael Chandler disclosed in February 2024 that the UFC assured him that the Conor McGregor bout would happen even though there were lengthy delays in scheduling the bout. In the previous season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” the two coaches were rivals, and it was expected that they would face off in the octagon shortly after. But the fight never came up anytime soon.
The fight becomes less fascinating the longer it is delayed. You’re either out of sight, out of memory, or absence makes the heart grow fonder. Fortunately for both guys, since coaching against one another on The Ultimate Fighter 31 (TUF) last year, McGregor and Chandler have continued to be seen in films and television commercials.
It is anticipated that Chandler will greet McGregor upon his return to the UFC, perhaps at International Fight Week. It will be over three years since McGregor’s previous fight, a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in which he shattered his leg, if he does make a comeback on June 29.
How Can Dana White’s Delay To Schedule Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler Affect Conor’s Fighting Career?
Recently, Conor Mcgregor was cast in the upcoming film Road House. Josh Thomson, a former Strikeforce champion and current UFC lightweight contender, believes the possible clash won’t be as exciting as it could be when all the elements are taken into account.
Thomson is worried about more than just the layoff, though. During his absence, McGregor has been engaged in this activity. He stated in his Weighing In podcast:

“When Nate Diaz did it (beat McGregor), it was special, We thought Conor was the man, and Nate did it coming in on what? Two weeks’ notice? That was amazing, and it was the way the fight played out.”
“It was amazing because he got his ass kicked for the first round. He started coming on, and then in the second round, everything happened. But, if Chandler did it (beat McGregor), I don’t even think we would be impressed. You beat a dude that’s been doing movies and drinking and partying for three years.”
When Is Conor McGregor Making His Comeback To UFC?
After losing to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July of 2021, McGregor is getting closer to making a UFC return. The 35-year-old had gained a significant amount of muscular bulk while healing from an ankle break. However, he has a more toned appearance in front of his summer comeback matchup with Michael Chandler, who provided a significant update on their Octagon encounter.
For his UFC comeback, McGregor toyed with the notion of competing at middleweight, but it appears he will stick with lightweight, where he has found tremendous success.
