Crossover bouts have become the norm in combat sports, whether it is MMA to boxing, MMA to WWE, or vice-versa. With this said, Oleksandr Usyk, the undisputed heavyweight boxing champion, might have a surprise up his sleeve. His coach, Sergey Lapin, recently hinted at an unexpected career move.
Usyk defeated Tyson Fury earlier this year in a thrilling heavyweight clash. Now, as they prepare for a rematch, Lapin is already looking beyond.
“Once he’s retired Tyson Fury, he will consider his options.Maybe that’s dropping down in weight again. Or, maybe there’s a wildcard option on the table for him, be it in the boxing ring, the MMA cage. Or, even Conor McGregor’s Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.” Lapin stated.
Usyk has proven himself the best of his generation in boxing. A move to MMA could offer new challenges and keep his competitive fire burning. It would certainly shake up the combat sports world. Of course, this is all speculation for now. Usyk still has unfinished business with Fury.
Usyk vs. Fury 2 promises to be another blockbuster event. Boxing fans are eager to see if Usyk can repeat his victory or if Fury will avenge his loss. For now, they will have to wait and see what unfolds. But one thing is certain: excitement will follow wherever Usyk goes.
