Conor McGregor fans, brace yourselves for a bit of a delay. According to UFC veteran Chael Sonnen, the highly anticipated fight between McGregor and Michael Chandler is not set for this year. He has insider information suggesting the bout is now slated for January 2025.
McGregor and Chandler were originally supposed to meet in August, but McGregor’s broken toe threw a wrench into those plans. Sonnen revealed in a recent YouTube video that the UFC aims to reschedule the fight for January, specifically in California. His scoop comes from what he describes as reliable sources within the UFC.
“I believe, an inside scoop that I’m getting, that the UFC wants all of those same things, they just want it in January, in California….I’m sharing what I believe, but for very good reason,” said Sonnen.
Conor McGregor last graced the Octagon back in 2021 in a fight against Dustin Poirier. Michael Chandler similarly fought against ‘Diamond’ in 2022. Both these fighters are coming off losses to Poirier. It remains to be seen who will emerge from the loss after a long layoff.
For now, it seems McGregor and Chandler will have to wait a bit longer to settle their differences in the octagon. While the delay might be frustrating, it also gives fans more time to speculate and build their excitement. Fans will keep an eye out for official announcements and prepare for what promises to be an electrifying start to 2025.
