Conor McGregor, the fiery Irishman who needs no introduction, has been out of the octagon for a while. But that doesn’t mean he’s lost his knack for stirring the pot in the MMA world. Recently, ‘The Notorious’ dropped a bombshell that’s got fight fans buzzing. He believes Alex Pereira could give Jon Jones a run for his money.
McGregor’s not just throwing wild punches here. He’s got some solid reasoning behind his claim. He pointed out Pereira’s dangerous style. The Brazilian’s striking is extremely sharp, which could pose problems for Jones.
“I think [Pereira] poses a lot of problems for Jon, also. That’s a dangerous style for Jon, but it’s a decent one for him because he’s not so big. Jon is new to the heavyweight division. Jon, he had a nice one against Ciryl Gane, but he’s still untested at heavyweight,” said McGregor while talking to The Schmo.
Conor McGregor further suggested that Jon Jones’ uncertainty at heavyweight could play into Pereira’s hands. In saying that, let’s not forget Jones’ impressive win over Ciryl Gane. But as McGregor cheekily pointed out, one win doesn’t make him great at heavyweight. Jones is still relatively untested in the heavyweight division.
Conor McGregor has been an advocate of Alex Pereira’s move up to heavyweight. The Irishman is so confident in the Brazilian fighter that he believes ‘Poatan’ could become the first three-division champ in UFC history.
