The brash Irishman known for his sharp tongue and sharper left hand recently dropped a bombshell. During a live stream, Conor McGregor revealed his personal top-5 MMA GOATs. But the surprising thing was that the self-promoting McGregor did not include himself in the list!
Let’s break down his choices. His choices centered around the old-school fighters at the start of the UFC. These guys shaped the UFC into what it is today; were responsible for adding some rules and all in all were the cornerstone of modern MMA.
“Top-5 MMA GOATS. Rickson Gracie, Royce Gracie, Ken Shamrock, Chuck Liddell… how many is that? Three, four? Four? The OGs… Bas Rutten. Bas Rutten, yeah. Europe’s own. Europe’s first is Bas Rutten. What a man Bas Rutten is.” said McGregor via Duelbits.
What’s interesting is who didn’t make the list. No Anderson Silva, no Georges St-Pierre, not even Jon Jones or Demetrious Johnson. It’s like McGregor decided to throw fans a curveball. Maybe he just wanted to give props to the OGs who paved the way.
And that is what Conor McGregor does best. Even when he’s not fighting, he knows how to stay in the headlines. It’s been a while since fans have seen him in the octagon, but he still has that knack for keeping them on their toes.
Conor McGregor Hopes To Return After Showcasing Recent Drug Test
‘The Notorious’ is itching to get back into the octagon. It’s been a long road since his last fight in July 2021. That night ended with a nasty leg injury and a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier. But Conor isn’t one to stay down for long. He’s been busy outside the cage, building businesses and even buying into BKFC. Yet the call of combat still burns strong in his veins.

Recently, Conor McGregor took to social media with a bold claim. He revealed that he was the most tested athlete on the UFC roster. To back it up, he shared a recent clean drug test result.
“Most tested athlete on the @ufc roster x2. I deserve my fight date! #CleanAthlete,” wrote McGregor via X.
But the UFC isn’t quite on the same page. Dana White, the big boss, is eyeing early 2025 for Conor’s return, and the Irishman is not thrilled about the wait. He had been pushing for a December bout against Michael Chandler. But that is now up in smoke after his recent announcement of fighting Charles Oliveira instead.
