Some athletes gain name and fame because of their sport. But once in a while, an athlete comes along who makes the sport itself popular. In the UFC, Conor McGregor is one of those big names who helped bring the sport to the mainstream and drew in many fans. After putting Ireland on the map, he inspired many fighters from his homeland who joined the promotion. Another fighter, Danni McCormack, has impressed with her solid skills at Road to UFC and received accolades for it.
If you missed the recent Road to UFC 3, Yan Qihui, a former Contender Series fighter, said when she fought against McCormack, she totally owned the first round with her strength against the Irish strawweight. The second round was tight, but McCormack returned strong in the third, nearly finishing despite a bad cut. After which, the judges scored the Irish fighter as the winner.
While she has been receiving praise from all directions, the real standout moment came when McGregor himself chimed in, hailing her as the “Incredible Irish.” That recognition from one of the biggest names in the sport is huge and puts her on the map.
The fighter from SBG Ireland is hungry for a contract, and with how she wrapped things up on Friday, she might score it. Meanwhile, with McGregor’s comment, fans are all asking if he’s coming back soon or if he is just going to stay on the sidelines and watch the action.
Conor McGregor’s Eyes Return On December
It’s been nearly a year of McGregor comeback rumors, but every time a date is set, it falls through and leaves fans disappointed. There’s talk of a potential fight with Michael Chandler over a year, and McGregor recently told SunSport he’s keen on a December return, saying, “That sounds good to me, brother.”
With McGregor vs. Chandler at UFC 303 scrapped because of a last-minute injury, McGregor is now setting his sights on December. Dana White’s promotion has scheduled UFC 310 to close out the year’s PPV lineup on December 10 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. If McGregor fights in December, it’ll be on this card.
