One of the most controversial topics of debate in the USA is trans inclusivity in sports, especially transwomen competing against ciswomen. Most of the combat sports practitioners are against it. John Kavanagh, the head coach of Conor McGregor, seems like one of them.
Recently, USA Boxing made provision for transmen and women to compete against cisgender men and women. The rule change resulted in backlash. UFC CEO Dana White, commentator Joe Rogan, and others have criticized it. John Kavanagh has now joined the mix.
John Kavanagh voices displeasure against trans inclusivity
Kavanagh is one of the best MMA coaches globally, especially in Europe. Conor McGregor is his most famous student, but he also has several other MMA fighters under his wing. The famed coach recently voiced his displeasure after transactivists protested at a NYC hearing.
“I would never allow one of my female fighters fight a biological male. Not happening. However it does seem to be mostly females supporting biological males competing against biological females 🤷🏻,” Kavanagh tweeted, venting his displeasure at the idea of a man fighting a woman.
Despite severe protests against trans inclusivity, especially in combat sports, several activities support it. One of the biggest cases of trans inclusivity is transwoman Lia Thomas who broke several swimming records after she transitioned to a female. The MMA community had rallied behind Riley Gaines, the biggest critic of Thomas competing with cisgender women.
As for Kavanagh, McGregor, his prized pupil, had pulled out of UFC 303. The UFC scrapped McGregor’s matchup against Chandler and replaced it with Alex Pereira vs. Jiri Prochazka II. Whether McGregor will ever fight again is a topic of debate. Chael Sonnen thinks he is done. so. However, Ariel Hewlani is positive the Irishman will fight later this year.
