After the unforgettable UFC trilogy, Dustin Poirier is aware that he will always have a soft spot for Conor McGregor.
Poirier has been training for his comeback matchup with Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299, while McGregor has been waiting to hear when he will fight again. Although McGregor stated on Tuesday that he was losing interest in competing again due to the “lack of action” to get him back in the cage, he still stated on Tuesday that he hoped to fight Michael Chandler in June and then maybe complete a second trilogy with Nate Diaz in September.
Three years have passed since Conor McGregor last engaged in combat in his third matchup with Poirier in July. Poirier can’t predict with any degree of confidence that his longstanding opponent, McGregor, will make a comeback given his time off and the protracted delays in scheduling a bout.

UFC 299: Dustin Poirier On Conor McGregor Felling His Right Hand
In UFC 299 against Benoit Saint-Denis Dustin Poirier made three attempts at submission, but he remained in the defensive mode the entire time. Poirer managed to withstand the Frenchman’s second attempt at submission as the second round got underway. With five consecutive finishes under his belt, Saint-Dennis appeared to be about to take down his strongest opponent yet in Poirier.
However, The Diamond ultimately demonstrated his worth as the UFC’s top dog. Dustin caught Benoit’s cheek with a firm left undercut as he swooped in again for a grapple. Just 2:32 into the second round, Dustin killed Benoit out with a right hook. Dustin followed it up with a straight left hand. Final elimination.
