Well, fight fans, it looks like the MMA world just got thrown for a loop. The long-awaited and much-anticipated showdown between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler is off the table, for now, at least.
Chandler is not sitting around twiddling his thumbs anymore. He is ready to rumble, with or without the infamous Irishman. And the UFC delivered for him. Word on the street is that Chandler is booked for a rematch at UFC 309. His opponent? None other than Charles Oliveira. @RobbieBarstool was the one to announce this, as he wrote,
“CORRECTION: I just got off the phone with Dana White, and there was a slight misunderstanding here. Michael Chandler may still fight Conor in his return next year, but he’s taking another fight first.”
This fight, set to take place at Madison Square Garden, will be the co-main event for the UFC 309 card and will last five rounds. Oliveira is coming off a loss to Arman Tsarukyan, and Chandler has been waiting patiently for over two years. Their rematch will be a highly anticipated event.
The Conor McGregor-Michael Chandler fight isn’t dead in the water. It is just temporarily put on ice. Dana White himself cleared up the confusion, saying it might still happen down the line. But this is a big ‘might’ for Chandler as he now gears up to face a tough opportunity in Charles Oliveira.

Michael Chandler recently spilled the beans on the ‘Frank Walks’ podcast, and he had some choice words for ‘The Notorious.’ Initially, Chandler was supportive when McGregor pulled out of their UFC 303 bout. But now, he is singing a different tune.
“In the sport it’s [a broken toe is] like, you know, it’s definitely not something that most guys would pull out of a fight for. But once again, I think when you’ve got options and you don’t have to fight but you want to fight, maybe you don’t fight injured,” said Chandler.
The former Bellator champ suggested that McGregor’s wealth and fame have made him soft. Fighting has become a hobby for the Irishman, like knitting or collecting stamps. Michael Chandler even hinted that McGregor might be scared of him. After all, the Dublin native has never pulled out of a fight before. Maybe ‘Iron‘ has got him shaking in his designer boots?
