It appears that even for fighters like Conor McGregor, getting a fight date in the UFC has become a steep climb. Since pulling out of the International Fight Week event against Michael Chandler, fans have been anxiously waiting to hear any updates on his comeback.
Meanwhile, it seems that ‘The Notorious’ has run out of options and must now look to external sources to generate pressure on Dana White and Co. for a fight date. With McGregor becoming the most drug-tested fighter on the roster, he finds himself in a precarious situation where outside support may be necessary to amplify his voice.
To provide some context, after taking a hiatus from the UFC in 2021, McGregor bulked up significantly, with some speculating it was to recover from his injury, while others believe it was for a movie role. In order to make his comeback, he first needs to be cleared as a drug-free athlete, which has contributed to the delays in his return.
Meanwhile, the Irishman recently posted on his social media a picture of his drug test results, which came back negative. In light of this, he called on the UFC to secure him a fight date. He emphasized that he is currently the most drug-tested athlete on the roster. However, he later deleted the post.
“Most tested athlete on the @ufc roster x2. I deserve my fight date! #CleanAthlete!”, McGregor had posted on X.
This isn’t the first time he has expressed frustration over not being booked and has called out the organization. At the recent Joshua vs. Dubois event, McGregor stated that he has been tested more than twice as often as other athletes, yet he still struggles to secure a fight date.
Conor McGregor Promises Epic Comeback in 2025
There’s no doubt that Dana White is a veteran captain, skillfully steering through a turbulent sea of questions. He has set a date for Conor McGregor’s return, saying it will happen in the first half of 2025. At the Joshua-Dubois fight in London, ‘The Notorious’ confirmed that he won’t be returning to the octagon this year.

He stated, “It will be in 2025…[Michael Chandler] got re-matched. It is what it is… Whenever [my return] is and wherever it is, I will be 100 percent ready… It does not matter [who I fight]. As long as I can get back.”
However, veterans like Chael Sonnen and others are skeptical about whether he will ever return. Still, given McGregor’s frustration and eagerness for a comeback, it seems likely that he will indeed step back into the octagon this time.
