Benoit Saint-Denis revealed his response to the defeat against Dustin Poirier, saying his “body was absent”, after receiving anti-biotics for a week. In the second round of their UFC 299 co-main event, “The Diamond” devastatingly stopped the French lightweight contender, who had dominated the first round with his superior grappling skills.
Lightweight contender Benoit Saint-Denis said he was struggling “with infection” on the way to his second-round knockout loss to Dustin Poirier in Miami, amid rumours during fight week surrounding a potential staph infection on his part before his UFC 299 fight. Very recently, Benoit Saint-Denis posted on his Instagram account that he went into the fight inside the Octagon completely dehydrated which might also have led to his early loss of energy.
In response to the loss, Saint-Denis took to social media to express gratitude to Poirier for providing him with this global platform and to acknowledge that, following a week of antibiotic treatment for an illness, his body had given up on him.

Benoit Saint Denis Reveals Reason For UFC 299 Loss
During their huge UFC 299 co-headliner in Florida, Saint-Denis, who saw his incredible five-fight winning run stopped by Lafayette striking ace Poirier, fell brutally to strikes in the second round last night.
Towards the end of the opening frame, Saint-Denis looked to be on his way to a stunning victory over Dustin Poirier after he started with an incredible pace and output against the former interim lightweight titleholder, French contender. Saint-Denis also found his range on the feet and threatened with multiple submission attempts.

Though Saint-Denis made a heroic effort, he was compromised in the opening moments of the second round. Poirier landed a well-placed left counter uppercut, dropping Saint-Denis to the canvas. Shortly after, he was dropped again by a cannoning right hook shot from the former interim gold medallist, knocking him out cold.
In a statement released shortly after his well-publicized defeat, Saint-Denis praised Poirier and thanked the Louisianan for fighting beside him. However, he later disclosed that he was suffering from an infection and was taking medicines during fight week of UFC 299 and also was “completely dehydrated” on the day of the fight.
