One of the most thrilling and outspoken fighters, Colby Covington, has kept fans on their toes with his sharp tongue and fierce octagon skills. But since 2020, Covington, who used to be in the cage 2-3 times a year, has noticeably slowed down, stepping into the octagon just once annually. It’s been nearly a year since fans last saw “Chaos” in action, and unfortunately, he won’t fight again this year. Recently, Covington shared that he’s eyeing a match with the rising talent, Jack Della Maddalena.
In a recent chat with Submission Radio, Colby Covington expressed his desire to take on Jack Della Maddalena in the UFC. Covington sees a major opportunity here to prove he’s the best, especially since Jack remains undefeated in the UFC and has outperformed top fighters like Gilbert Burns and Kevin Holland. With Maddalena climbing the ranks, Covington believes a matchup between them would establish who truly deserves to be the next title contender.
In her words, “This fight with Jack Della Maddalena, I think it makes a lot of sense. He’s got a big win in my hometown, in Miami the last time he was there. So he has a little bit of a name out here. He’s undefeated (in the UFC), he’s hungry, he’s you know, fearless. You know, he’s an exciting fighter…It’s a top contender fight that establishes who’s the next contender for the belt.”
It’ll be interesting to see if Dana White and Co. will greenlight this matchup, especially considering Covington’s recent rejection and declining stock since the Leon Edwards fight. While he’s eager to face Jack Della Maddalena, UFC approval might hinge on whether Covington can regain his standing and prove he’s still a top contender.
Colby Covington Got Rejected For UFC 310
Colby “Chaos” Covington recently explained his UFC hiatus, saying he spent time helping Donald Trump’s campaign while managing a foot injury. Now that he’s back, Covington offered to step in for Belal Muhammad, but the UFC rejected the idea. Instead, they seem more interested in booking a bigger fight: Kamaru Usman vs. Shavkat Rakhmonov, keeping Covington out of action once again.
He stated, “I told the UFC that I was willing to step up to the plate, I would love to save the show. I think (the UFC) had other plans. [It] looks like they’re going a different route. They’re going to go with potentially Usman vs (Shavkat).”
