Pre-fight confrontations have become a huge part of combat sports, with fighters often clashing before the actual event. From former UFC star Muhammad Mokaev to others, some even brawled in hotel lobbies, turning them into makeshift fight arenas. To steer clear of such chaos, Colby Covington revealed he’s staying in a private mansion.
Ahead of the Joaquin Buckley fight, Colby Covington spoke to MMA Guru, who asked if he was avoiding hotels. The former interim champ confirmed, revealing he’s staying at a private seven-bedroom mansion with a pool and other things at it. Covington’s move ensures he avoids unnecessary drama before his fight, keeping the focus on the octagon while sidestepping any potential pre-fight altercations at the venue.
In his words, “Come on bro we don’t stay in hotels we got a mansion. I don’t need a hotel. I’m not like different fighters, I’m the main event… Staying away from all the dramas. All the fighters have big egos and they love to talk sh*t when they know they’re not going to get locked in a cage so I don’t want to deal with that.”
Indeed, not everyone can handle Covington’s relentless trash talk. A bad interaction could easily escalate into a physical altercation. Staying at a separate location, like his private mansion, is definitely a smart move to avoid unnecessary pre-fight confrontations.
Colby Covington Thinks He Is One Win Away From UFC Title Shot
At the presser, Covington was in full showman mode, hyping himself as the biggest name in the division. He threw shade at his rivals, calling them boring and lifeless, while declaring himself the “king of Miami.” Not only that, Covington even promised that a win over Buckley would cement his spot as the next title contender, saying this fight is his ticket back to the top.
In his words, “I’m the biggest name in the sport… So I think after Saturday night, when I convincingly beat Buckley, you know, I’m next in line for the title.”
