The welterweight title fight between Belal Muhammad and Shavkat Rakhmonov is now off due to Muhammad’s Injury. The UFC 310 year-end PPV card event faces setbacks. However, Dana White might be considering a major replacement matchup. A clash between Colby Covington and Dustin Poirier could be the perfect substitute, bringing two of the UFC’s top stars into the spotlight. Covington also shared some surprising insider details about his potential showdown with Poirier.
Covington and Poirier, once teammates, have a strained relationship after a series of conflicts, with Covington even accusing Poirier of playing a role in his departure from the American Top Team. Following his interim title victory, Covington called Poirier out, but Poirier turned down the challenge.
Recently, on Submission Radio, Covington revealed that the UFC had reached out to him for a potential fight with Poirier at UFC 309 on November 17. He added that Poirier was offered double his regular pay but declined, allegedly stating he didn’t want Covington to earn from the fight. He said,
“UFC’s approached me with it, but they know I’ve always been on board. But you know, Dustin was even going to get a pay raise, double what he normally gets, and still turned it down. He said, ‘Nah, I’m never fighting Colby. I’m not going to let him make any money.’”
Renato Moicano Admits Dustin Poirier’s Toughness, Backs Himself Against Other Lightweights
Renato Moicano has quickly gained attention in the lightweight division with his trash-talking and impressive finishes. As he climbs the rankings, Moicano recently declared himself the best in the division but admitted he would avoid fighting Dustin Poirier. A former Interim Lightweight Champion, Poirier is one of the top fighters in the division, and the two are teammates who have trained and sparred together. On The Ariel Helwani Show, Moicano shared his reasons for not wanting to face Poirier in the octagon. He said,
“What’s the point of signing the contract of fighting a guy that beats me up in the gym? So there is no point on that. On my mind, I’m the best fighter in the lightweight division. I can beat anybody. I just cannot beat Dustin Poirier. The rest; I can beat everybody in this division.”
