There’s no doubt that combat sports are home to some of the most confident athletes, each with a champion’s mindset that makes them believe they’re untouchable. Fighters often use this self-belief to boost their confidence and instill doubt in their opponents’ minds. Colby Covington is a prime example of this strategy. Despite losing three title fights, he remains convinced that a win over Joaquin Buckley will put him back in title contention. Proving that his confidence is as unshakable as ever.
Covington claims he’s always in the mix for title shots, calling himself the biggest name in the division. He asserts there are no real stars except for him, labeling his competition as boring and lacking personality. Covington confidently proclaims himself the “king of Miami,” insisting that a win over Buckley will solidify his path to a title shot.
He believes this victory will elevate him to the top as he continues to push for recognition as the dominant figure in the division. In his words, “I’m the biggest name in the sport… So I think after Saturday night, when I convincingly beat Buckley, you know, I’m next in line for the title.”

Realistically, it’s tough to see Colby Covington getting another title shot, especially after losing three out of his last five fights. Kamaru Usman defeated him twice, and Leon Edwards beat him once, making it difficult to argue for his title contention.
However, Covington is a huge draw in the UFC, and that could work in his favor. He could still ignite a heated rivalry with reigning champ Belal Muhammad, potentially setting up a future title fight.
Belal Muhammad Claims Colby Covington Is Out Of The UFC Title Shot Race
‘Chaos’ believes a win over Joaquin Buckley will restore his title contention, but UFC champ Belal disagrees. He isn’t buying into Covington’s hype for the title shot and has predicted a short night for him. He’s not confident that Covington can handle Buckley, even going so far as to predict a knockout win for Buckley on Saturday.

He said, “Look at his last wins; they’re all against guys that are retired, guys that are on their way out…. Nobody in the top 5 he can touch right now. So I think that he’s going to lose this one. And he’s gonna go missing.”
It’s definitely going to be interesting to see if Covington can prove himself right and shut down the UFC champ’s predictions. If he manages to pull off the win, it could completely shake up his future in the company.
