MMA fans are in for a treat as UFC 302 is set to take place later this week in the cage. The main event will see Dustin Poirier challenge Islam Makhahcev for the belt. In the co-main event, former middleweight champion Sean Strickland will clash with the great Brazilian man Paulo Costa. This will be one of the most entertaining fights as both the men have striking heavy styles.
Sean Strickland lost his title to Dricus Du Plessis earlier this year in the cage. His coach revealed that he is set to take Costa to deep water to get back in the win column.
Sean Strickland’s head coach wants to drag Sean Strickland to deep waters ahead of UFC 302
The middleweight division will see two of the top contenders on a collision course in the main card of UFC 302. With a win over each other, Costa and Strickland can be next in line for a title shot in the octagon. His Head coach, Eric Nicksick, recently talked about how he wants Sean to punish Costa come the UFC 302. In an interview given to Submission Radio, Nicksick said,
That’s the mentality right now is to try and drag this dude into some deep waters. I hope we can get him out of there by round four or five.
Eric Nicksick clarified that he wants his protege Sean Strickland to drag Paulo into deep waters in the co-main even of the UFC 302. He thinks the five rounds favor Strickland. Strickland has fought in more five-round fights than the Brazilian in the cage. Nicksick made it clear that he would have to punish his opponent in the cage by maintaining distance. He did give some massive props to Costa, calling him durable.
Sean Strickland is a natural boxer in the octagon, whereas Paulo has some heavy kicks in his arsenal, too. Costa has a Jiu-Jitsu black belt in the cage. Strickland will need to find a way to neutralize the leg and body kicks thrown by the Brazilian Costa. Costa has impressive and flashy striking and is known for getting into some major wars in the cage. MMA fans can expect a rather entertaining fight if it goes the distance in the UFC 302.
