In the UFC, being labeled a “duck” is a big deal because it can tarnish a fighter’s reputation, making them seem scared to take on certain opponents. Despite Jon Jones’ legendary career, he’s now facing criticism for not fighting Tom Aspinall, with some labeling him a “duck.” Meanwhile, Chris Curtis, known for being willing to fight anyone, once turned down a fight with Alex Pereira, choosing to maintain goodwill rather than take on that challenge.
Recently, talking to MMA Junkie, Curtis explained that while he’s up for any matchup, he draws the line at fighting Pereira. He also mentioned that he’s a fan of Kevin Holland and would happily fight him after Holland’s next bout. Curtis just wants exciting fights and isn’t picky about who he faces—except for Pereira.
He said, “People who don’t know Alex Pereira don’t realize how big this man is in real life. It is distressing how large this dude is. I was like, ‘You know what? I don’t have to answer for this, so I’m just going to say no. I’ve said yes to everything else, I’m going to cash that good will in and say, ‘F*ck no’ here.’”
Curtis admitted feeling a bit overwhelmed by how large Pereira is, so when the fight was offered, he decided to pass. Curtis, known for accepting any challenge, used his reputation and previous willingness to fight anyone as “goodwill” to say no this time, explaining that he simply wasn’t up for it.
Jan Blachowicz Reminds Fans He Has Beaten Alex Pereira
Blachowicz feels people have forgotten about his toughness, especially after his loss over Alex Pereira, which he believes the judges helped Pereira with. He also mentioned his draw with Magomed Ankalaev, calling them two of the most dangerous fighters in the division. Blachowicz acknowledges the lack of attention, attributing it to his one-and-a-half-year break from fighting.
He said, “I think people forgot that I won against Alex Pereira. The [judges] helped him, in my opinion. I have a draw with [Magomed] Ankalaev. The two most dangerous fighters in our division right now. I think people just forgot about me.”
