Tony Ferguson’s recent losing streak has raised eyebrows and concerns in equal measure. Eight consecutive losses would make most fighters hang up their gloves, but not him. Former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira is a man who knows a thing or two about career resurgence. He’s calling on the UFC to lend ‘El Cucuy’ a helping hand.
Oliveira, who handed Ferguson one of those losses, wasn’t calling for retirement. Instead, he suggested suggesting a different approach. He believed that UFC should give ‘El Cucuy’ someone close to his age.
“He deserves all the respect in the world just to be fighting still, he deserves a standing ovation for everything he’s done in the UFC. But I think the UFC should also give him some help and put him against someone [around his age] so they can put on a show, and we applaud them,” said Oliveira via MMA Fighting.
The former champ has a point, as Tony Ferguson’s recent opponents have been spring chickens compared to him. Charles Oliveira wants to see El Cucuy have a fair fight, and maybe he will consider retiring after a win.
Ferguson’s refusal to retire is both admirable and concerning. However, Charles Oliveira’s suggestion to match Ferguson with veterans is intriguing and doable. Imagine the fireworks of a Ferguson vs. Cerrone fight or maybe a fight against veteran Jim Miller. Maybe this would be a great end for his career.

Chandler recently spilled the beans on Ariel Helwani’s show. He revealed that the winner of this fight would become the number 1 contender for the lightweight title held by Islam Makhachev.
“It’s a No. 1 contender fight; that’s what Dana announced. Wherever he got on his social media, he said, ‘Hey, this fight is happening on November 16—a five-round co-main event for the top contender fight.’ So, it’s from the boss’s mouth.”
Chandler and Charles Oliveira have fought before, and the latter came out on top. Now, they will run it back, and Michael Chandler will hope to rectify his previous loss. The fight is set for Madison Square Garden. It’s the co-main event, right before Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic throw down!
