Islam Makhachev has been a dominant force in the UFC since joining. His resume speaks to his dominant position, losing only one fight and holding the LW belt. However, the question of who he will fight next remains. Meanwhile, Brazillian MMA fighter Charles Oliveira’s coach has expressed interest in the Oliveira vs. Makhachev fight.
When Islam Makhachev fought against Dustin Poirier, it was clear that his next opponent would be the winner of Arman Tsarukyan vs. Charles Oliveira. However, Tsarukyan has been suspended for at least nine months for slapping a fan at that event, making a fight with the champ unlikely. Meanwhile, in an interview with AG Fight, coach Diego Lima shared that Oliveira is ready to take on Makachev.
He stated, “Both Charles and I want the belt. Now with Arman suspended, there would be no name other than Charles Oliveira…Poirier just fought, Gaethje also got knocked out. So the truth is that with Arman out of the game. I believe there is no one at 155 to fight Makhachev other than Charles. So it’s certainly what we want, it’s what Charles wants.”
Indeed, now that the big names in the division are busy with other fights or sidelined, fighting the former champ is a good matchup. Considering their history, there is no doubt that it will sell out.
When Will UFC Champ Islam Makhachev Fight Next?
As per the earlier reports, the champ of Makhachev’s next fight has decided to take on Oliveira/Tsarukyan in November at Madison Square Garden. After that, he’ll return in February to fight.

The future remains uncertain. However, it will be interesting to see whom he will fight next and how long he can maintain his champ status in this division after such a dominant run, akin to Khabib Nurmagomedov. The current options are limited, but Dana White knows his job best, and surely, he’ll come out with a big fight for him.
