UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has opened up about his struggle with alcoholism. Pereira is one of the biggest stars in the UFC at the moment. With the promotion, he has won the world title in two weight classes in just about two years.
However, Pereira’s life wasn’t anywhere near this a few years ago. The Brazilian’s life wasn’t easy at all, and he was stuck in a terrible place. He struggled with alcoholism.
However, Alex Pereira got into MMA and turned his life around. Soon, he reached the pinnacle of the sport. While speaking about how he used to be afraid and ashamed of talking about addiction, he said:
“Until recently, I was kind of afraid, ashamed… But today, I see the need for it. Because, how many people are suffering from alcohol or drug problems? Not only directly, but also the family. So today, people have the opportunity to know where they can be saved. In sports. It doesn’t matter if it’s kickboxing, MMA, soccer, or whatever, you know?”

Who will Alex Pereira fight next?
Alex Pereira was most recently seen at the promotion’s historic UFC 300 event. At the event, he took on Jamahal Hill and secured a first-round knockout victory to defend his light heavyweight title.
Since then, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding his future, but nothing is certain. Interestingly, Alex Pereira has been quite vocal about his interest in moving up to the heavyweight division.
That said, it remains to be seen if he will move up in weight or further defend his 205lbs title inside the octagon.
