When it was reported earlier today that Cain Velasquez was arrested for attempted murder, many wonder what could have possibly set off one of the most respected men in mixed martial arts history.
According to the San Jose police, Velasquez had shot someone near the intersection of Monterey Highway and Bailey Avenue. The victim had to be transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while Cain was taken into custody.
Few official details regarding the incident have been released to the public, but there is one rumor floating around twitter that has some fairly reliable sources attached to it.
According to @FightOracle, the “talk going around” is that Velasquez chased down two men in a vehicle, as one of the men was accused of sexual abuse at the day care center that Cain’s children attend. The other man was the father of the abuser.
The report also states that Cain fired at least three shots. No confirmation on who he was aiming for, but it was the father of the abuser who was shot and taken to the hospital.

FightOracle also states that Velasquez found about about the sexual abuse, which the man was charged and released for on cheap bail. Cain found out about his release and decided to hand out his own form of justice.
Former MMA fighter Jake Shields has also confirmed that he’s heard a similar story making rounds.
If this is in fact the case, it makes it awfully easy to sympathize with Cain. The sexual abuser should thank his lucky stars it was only “attempted murder.”
Velasquez’s last UFC appearance was in February 2019, when he lost to Francis Ngannou via first round KO. He has since endured some short stints in professional wrestling with the WWE and Lucha Libra AAA Worldwide.
