Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was arrested Monday after he was involved in a shooting that left one man injured. NBC Bay Area, citing “sources with direct knowledge of the investigation,” first reported the news of Velasquez’s involvement in the shooting in Morgan Hill, Calif.
TMZ Sports would later state that Velasquez has been booked on attempted murder charges.
The San Jose police media relations office tweeted that the man injured in the shooting was shot “at least once” near the intersection of Monterey Highway and Bailey Avenue. He was “transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injures.”
Velasquez is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
The former UFC heavyweight champion and wrestling star was born in Salinas and lives in the South Bay. During his reign, Cain beat everyone from Brock Lesnar to Junior dos Santos.
