The UFC’s flyweight division has often received less attention from fans, but Japanese fighter Tatsuro Taira has captured the spotlight with his exciting fighting style. This weekend, Taira will headline a Fight Night event, facing Brandon Royval in the main event. Royval recently shared that he declined the offer to fight against Kai Asakura at UFC 305 in Perth.
Royval will make his 10th octagon appearance this weekend. He previously turned down an offer for a spot on the UFC 305 PPV card against Asakura due to financial disagreements. As the top-ranked flyweight contender, ‘Raw Dawg’ demanded higher pay.
“Dude, I think of myself like, bro, I’m a prostitute for sure. I put my body on the line for money. But it’s at this point [that] I f*cking earned my No. 1 spot. I fought my ass off. I’m No. 1 in the world. So I’m an expensive prostitute. I’m not a cheap ass prostitute anymore,” he explained in a recent interview with MMA Fighting.
As the former title contender aims for greater recognition within the division, the anticipation surrounding his upcoming fight this weekend is building. The winner of the matchup between Royval and Taira will earn a title shot against Alexander Pantoja.
