The year has just kicked off, and the buzz around potential UFC matchups is already heating up. Fans, fighters, analysts, and UFC executives are all speculating about the bouts that could define 2025. Among the hyped names like Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall and Alex Pereira’s next move, one fight that has everyone intrigued is Bo Nickal vs. Khamzat Chimaev.
Although this matchup isn’t on the cards yet, given the rankings and timing, the curiosity is undeniable. Fans are imagining how a clash between Nickal’s elite wrestling and Chimaev’s relentless grappling would unfold. Now the former NCAA champ himself recently shared his thoughts on how this dream fight might play out.
Recently, Bo Nickal joined Chael Sonnen on his YouTube channel for an in-depth conversation. The UFC veteran discussed the much-anticipated hypothetical matchup between Nickal and Khamzat Chimaev.
Nickal didn’t shy away from sharing his strategy for such a fight. His game plan is to keep the relentless pressure on, create constant scrambles, and push Chimaev into the later rounds. According to Nickal, the deeper the fight goes, the more the odds shift in his favor.
In his words, “I don’t think there is a guy in the world at 86 kilos that can beat me in wrestling. I think that he (Chimaev) is good, he’s got skills. The biggest thing that is going to crush him. Especially against a fighter like me, is you’re going to get tired.”
Subsequently, the ex-NCAA champ laid it out confidently, predicting that Khamzat would run out of energy as the fight progresses, while he would only get stronger. He rejects the idea of being taken down and insists he’s more likely to dominate the fight on the ground.
