Given the skill level involved, MMA is the most exciting combat sport globally. The UFC is the biggest MMA organization in the world. One of the biggest stars in the company, BMF champion Max Holloway, has been around for over a decade. Holloway knows the sport inside out. In a conversation with commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan, Holloway touched on a necessary evil in the UFC. Even Joe Rogan seemed to agree with the BMF champion.
The build-up to the fight is tough for most UFC fighters. The MMA stars work hard and sweat to shed the last few pounds and gain weight.
Max Holloway on one thing he wants to change about MMA
Max Holloway has been trending on social media since knocking out Justin Gaethje in the final minute of the final round. Holloway won a massive $600,000 bonus for his victory inside the octagon. Holloway is only the third winner of the BMF championship belt in UFC. Max Holloway appeared on the JRE show after his victory, and the duo of Joe Rogan and Holloway were spotted talking about many things, including weight-cutting in the UFC. Holloway said,
I only do it ( Weight Cutting) because everybody else is doing it. If I don’t do it I’ll fight at 170. Imagine my a** steooing in and fighting like a George St Pierre. That guy is fu*king huge.
Max Holloway revealed that he only cuts weight before his bout because other guys do it. Weight cutting has been the norm in the UFC for a long time. If he does not cut weight and fights in his natural weight class, he will have to fight guys like George St Pierre inside the octagon. Holloway is currently one of the best fighters in the Featherweight and Lightweight divisions in the company. Max Holloway made a decent point and might have garnered support from the MMA community.
Most fighters cut a ton of weight to fight in lower-weight classes to increase their chances of winning the bout and completing the objective of acquiring UFC gold. Joe Rogan seemed to agree with Max. He advised that the company should do hydration tests of the athletes before bouts in the UFC. This process will bring more transparency to the world of MMA and transcend boundaries in terms of fair play.
