The fight community was stunned when an unexpected injury disrupted the first pay-per-view event of the year, UFC 311. But Renato Moicano stepped up as a replacement after Arman Tsarukyan had to withdraw, taking on the challenge of fighting Islam Makhachev. In light of this fact, Moicano was already scheduled to face Beneil Dariush on the same card, which many felt was unfair to Dariush. However, Dariush expressed his gratitude to Dana White for ensuring he was well-compensated despite the change.
Beneil Dariush explained how he learned about the fight changes during a chat with The Schmo. At 4 a.m., his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, asked if he could make 155 pounds. Dariush, assuming he might fight for the title after Arman Tsarukyan pulled out, made weight and rehydrated.
Later, Ali informed him that Moicano would take the fight instead. To compensate, the promotion paid Dariush both his show and win money. He assured fans that the UFC and his team took great care of him after his fight cancellation, saying he couldn’t complain.
He said, “It’s excellent, I can’t complain, they’re giving me show and win money so you know, a lot of people are like, ‘I hope they take care of you’, they are I appreciate Dana and the UFC.”
Indeed, as Dariush himself has confirmed, UFC fans’ usual criticism about fighter pay and fairness might ease up now.
