Khabib Nurmagomedov’s legacy in MMA extends far beyond his undefeated record. His wisdom continues to shape the sport’s future champions, including Belal Muhammad, the newly crowned UFC welterweight king. Fresh off his title win, fans would think he would be basking in glory. But Khabib had other ideas.
On Demetrious Johnson’s podcast, Belal Muhammad spilled the beans on Khabib’s post-victory advice. It wasn’t about partying or bragging rights. Nope, Khabib went straight for the jugular, and his advice stuck with the Chicago native.
“The first thing Khabib told me after winning the title was like, “brother, now you gotta work hard. You don’t take your foot off the gas, you work twice as hard…Train harder, train harder, and train harder. Because now, they are all coming for you.”
This message screams like Belal Muhammad grabbed the championship belt with one hand and a target for his back with the other. Khabib Nurmagomedov’s no-nonsense approach is what makes him so successful, both in the octagon and in coaching.
‘Remember The Name’ has some tough choices ahead. Kamaru Usman? Shavkat Rakhmonov? The wolves are circling. But with Khabib’s wisdom in his ear, he is not resting on his laurels. He’s back in the gym, grinding and training to put down the next threat to his throne.

Belal Muhammad recently revealed to MMA coach Eric Nicksick that his training sessions were not exactly ego-boosting affairs, which kept him in check and humble.
“I mean they help me just by beating me up and it just keeps my ego in check where there’s still stuff to work on. I’ll be on a ten-fight winning streak, and these guys will sit there and tap me out like it’s nothing,” said Muhammad.
But Belal Muhammad is not complaining. He’s grateful for these humbling experiences. Imagine being on a ten-fight win streak, feeling on top of the world. Then bam! You’re tapping out like a rookie. That’s life at American Kickboxing Academy, as Khabib Nurmagomedov and his team don’t believe in participation trophies.
