Belal Muhammad, the reigning welterweight champ, has been on a tear himself. He is not known for flashy finishes, but the man knows how to win. He recently took the title from longtime rival Leon Edwards, and now, another one is approaching to take his title. Shavkat Rakhmonov has been tearing through the welterweight division like a hot knife through butter. Eighteen fights, eighteen finishes.
The duo have been sending verbal shots at each other since Muhammad won the welterweight title. But now, Rakhmonov has pulled a complete 180 on fans as he is singing a different tune in a recent interview.
“My opponent is really good. You can’t underestimate Belal Muhammad… І don’t think it will be easy fight for me, but I will give everything I have in this fight… May the better man win when we fight,” said Rakhmonov via Vestnikmma.
Shavkat Rakhmonov went on to compliment Belal Muhammad’s work ethic. He praised his technique and ability to control fights and how he stalls even the most explosive fighters and makes them play his game. It’s high praise coming with a perfect record as ‘The Nomad.’
But this isn’t a total love fest. Shavkat Rakhmonov still believes he will win. He is just not being loud about it. But he believes it will be the hardest test of his life, and rightfully so. Muhammad is on a streak and the champion. And no fight is easy against the champion.

‘Remember The Name’ recently clinched the welterweight belt from Leon Edwards. It was a sweet victory, but apparently, the taste turned sour, all because of a simple comment from Ariel Helwani, the MMA journalist.

Belal Muhammad has a bone to pick up with Helwani. He claimed the journalist was playing favorites. According to the Chicago native, Helwani has been Team Edwards all along. In a fiery rant on his podcast, Muhammad let loose.
”For you to keep hating like that, that just shows the person he is. He [Helwani] is a clown.”
But Belal Muhammad is not just mad about Helwani’s alleged bias. He is fuming over his recent interview with Tom Aspinall. Apparently, Helwani brought up the challenges of fighting early in the morning at UFC 304. Muhammad saw this as a backhanded excuse for Edwards’ loss.
