“No! I would never fight him,” Belal Muhammad said when he was asked whether he would ever face Islam Makhachev if he received an opportunity. Is it just the brotherhood? Naah… the 36-year-old knows the capabilities of a Russian MMA fighter. In fact, he also wants the UFC Lightweight champion to conquer higher divisions.
In a recent interview with The Schmo on YouTube, Muhammad reiterated his previous comments and his suggestion to Makhachev to move up the weight class. He said,
“He’s my brother, right. But like I said I said it’s a couple months ago where I said I think he can literally go up to 185 and win the belt. People don’t know how big he is and how strong he is and how talented he is.”
Makhacehv is currently in the lightweight division; however, his “brother” Belal Muhammad believes the Russian can beat down anyone in the world.
“I think if he didn’t have to cut weight 185, he could still go out there and beat these guys. He’s as big as these guys. I’ve seen Du Plessis, I’ve seen Israel Adesanya in- person. And with Islam’s set of skills, I think you could dominate a lot of these guys up there,” Muhammad added.
Belal Muhammad Chooses Israel Adesanya Over Dricus Du Plessis
The upcoming UFC 305 will feature a middleweight championship fight between titleholder Dricus Du Plessis and Israel Adesanya. Scheduled for August 18 in Perth, Australia, the event is already creating a lot of buzz.
When The Schmo asked Muhammad to choose one between the main event fighters, he picked Adesanya. He backed the Stylebender for having exceptional skills to take down Du Plessis’s moves in the octagon. His choice of words certainly reflected his confidence in the 34-year-old Kiwi MMA fighter to win the middleweight championship.
