The UFC has come a long way since its cage-fighting days. From small venues to big arenas, the promotion has evolved. But The Sphere is a whole new ballgame. It is a futuristic dome in the heart of Las Vegas, pulsing with energy, and it’s about to host the most ambitious UFC event yet. Dana White, the mastermind behind the octagon, is pulling out all the stops for UFC 306.
White recently spilled the beans on what fans can expect. It’s not just fights; it’s a full-blown spectacle. Think part-movie, part-MMA extravaganza. It’s like White decided to mash up Hollywood and haymakers.
“There’s a movie that’s gonna run in the Sphere. There are chapters to this movie. So before each fight is a movie, and you will be focused on the Sphere and the screen. Then the fighters will walk out. then the fight is the star of the show. When that’s over, there will be another movie, then a fight,” said White via First Take.
White’s excitement is palpable. And why not? This event is costing a whopping $20 million. Plus, Mexican Independence Day adds another layer of excitement.
The main event is the much-anticipated fight between Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili. It’s a bantamweight brawl that promises fireworks. The co-main event also promises a show as Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko will duke it out for the women’s flyweight title.

Let’s start with the main event mastermind, Sean O’Malley. He knows this is big; even Conor McGregor wanted this gig. This is what he said:
“It’s an honor to headline at Sphere. Conor (McGregor) wanted it. Ilia (Topuria) wanted it. I feel super privileged to be able to do that. I think my work over the last seven years I’ve been in the UFC has kind of led me to this, and I’m very, very excited to put Merab’s lights out,” said O’Malley via UFC.com
Now, moving on to his opponent, Merab Dvalishvili. He sees this UFC 306 main event as a gift from the heavens, a reward for all his hard work. This is what he said:
“I’m sure the people that come are going to feel like they are fighting. It’s going to be a little bit different for us as the fighters, like when you are fighting with the screens and TVs, but I’m OK because it’s going to be the same thing for my opponent. For fans, it will be crazy,” said Dvalishvili via UFC.com.
In the end, though, it’s still about the fights. Once that octagon door closes, it doesn’t matter if they’re in the Sphere or a backyard. These warriors will do what they do best: put on a show.
