The bantamweight division is becoming increasingly thrilling for fans, with several fighters vying for a title shot. Sean O’Malley, Umar Nurmagomedov, and now Petr Yan are all in contention to challenge Merab Dvalishvili. The title fight is set to take place in 2025, and Dvalishvili has also expressed interest in a showdown with Yan at UFC 313.
Yan secured a dominant victory over Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC Macau on November 23, winning by unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45). Following the fight, speculation quickly began about a potential rematch between the Russian fighter and Merab Dvalishvili for the bantamweight title.
The Georgian champion was clearly impressed by Yan’s performance, as he took to Instagram shortly after the fight to issue a challenge. In his post, Dvalishvili shared a video and called out Yan for a rematch, even specifying the date and venue in the caption: “LFG @petr_yan – March 8th #UFC313 T mobile, Las Vegas”
Dvalishvili, who claimed the bantamweight title by defeating O’Malley at UFC 306, had fans speculating about a potential rematch with ‘Suga’ for the title. However, the Georgian champion now appears more interested in facing Petr Yan first. During the post-fight press conference, Yan also called out Dvalishvili, expressing his desire for a rematch.
Petr Yan Claims He Has A Rightful Shot At Title After UFC Macau Win
At the recent UFC Fight Night event in Macau, Russian fighter Yan secured a victory over Deiveson Figueiredo. Following his win, Yan wasted no time issuing a challenge to bantamweight champion Dvalishvili. Yan argued that defeating the top contender earns him a rightful shot at the title.
“Hey guys, before my fight, Merab said that Deiveson Figueiredo was the number one contender who deserved the title fight. I want to say to Merab, what do you say now? When I’ve beaten the number one contender in my division, I want to do a rematch with Merab – let’s get him!” Yan said in a post-fight interview.
