Arman Tsarukyan has been making waves in the UFC and is currently the number 1 contender for the lightweight title. He is known for his skills in the octagon and his quick wit outside it. But this latest revelation takes the cake. For two years, the Armenian fighter practicing the Christian faith had his coach convinced he was Muslim.
In an interview, Tsarukyan spilled the beans about his long-running joke. He casually dropped the bomb on his coach, revealing that he was not Muslim. His coach’s reaction was pure disbelief as, for two years, Tsarukyan made him think that he was.
“It’s been about two years, and I say, coach, “I’m not a Muslim”. And he says, “how is not a Muslim? And why did Maga always say that?” I say yeah, he’s messing with me on purpose,” said Tsarukyan via Adam Zuba YT.
The prank wasn’t a solo act, though. Tsarukyan’s teammate, Maga, was in on it too. Now, fans might be wondering how this mix-up even happened. Armenia has a predominantly Christian population and a minority Muslim population. Tsarukyan himself is Christian. But apparently, his coach missed that memo.
Thankfully, his coach took the revelation in stride. No grudges were held. That’s good news for Tsarukyan’s upcoming title fight against Islam Makhachev. This prank has shown Tsarukyan’s lighter side to fans. He’s not just a fighter; he’s a comedian in 4-ounce gloves.

Fast forward to today, and Arman Tsarukyan is on a tear. He has won four fights in a row. His latest victories include a knockout over Beneil Dariush and a split decision against Charles Oliveira. Now, he is shouting from the rooftops about his title shot. In a recent interview, he made his stance crystal clear that his next fight would be a title fight.
“And my next fight will be only for the belt. So it could be an interim title if [Makhachev] doesn’t have time to recover his hand. If he recovers his hand, it will be even better for me,” said Tsarukyan via Artem Tarasov.
Recently, Khabib Nurmagomedov revealed that Makhachev would be defending his belt in January of next year. He did not specify the opponent, but it’s pretty safe to say that it would be Arman Tsarukyan. This rematch has been deemed by many as the toughest fight for the current champion, and fans would be on the edge of their seats, anticipating who gets the better of the bout.
