Top lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan is already planning his future fights. While he’s likely to challenge Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title, the Armenian fighter is also predicting the outcomes of his upcoming matchups and has expressed interest in a rematch with Charles Oliveira.
In a recent interview with TNT Sports, Tsarukyan shared his thoughts on the top fighters in the lightweight division, naming himself, Oliveira, and Makhachev as the best in the weight class. Tsarukyan also predicted a future title defense against Oliveira if he defeats Makhachev to become champion. The Armenian fighter said,
“Charles Oliveira is one of the best in our division. And I feel like Islam [Makhachev] Charles Oliveira and me are the top three in the lightweight division right now. Because Charles beat everybody in the top 15. I beat everybody too. Islam like he’s champ Pound for Pound. He also added “When I am a champion, I would like to fight with Charles… I would like to finish him.”
Arman Tsarukyan also praised both of his potential opponents, Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira. The Makhachev vs. Tsarukyan matchup is shaping up to be one of the UFC’s next big fights. However, the bout has not yet been officially confirmed, as the UFC has not announced it on their social media platforms or website.
Islam Makhachev’s Manager Confirms UFC 311 Bout Against Arman Tsarukyan Still Unofficial
The first major UFC event of 2025 is expected to feature a lightweight title fight between Makhachev and Tsarukyan. While the Nurmagomedov MMA School announced the matchup on social media, Makhachev’s manager, Rizvan Magomedov, clarified to Ushatayka that the contract was not yet signed. He stated,
“No, the contract has not been signed yet. For now, we’re preparing for January 18. We were given the date, and we accepted it. We assume it will be Tsarukyan.”

Makhachev’s manager, Rizvan Magomedov, also revealed that Khabib Nurmagomedov will be in his corner whenever the lightweight championship returns to the octagon. Khabib’s addition to the corner heightens excitement for the matchup.
