Arman Tsarukyan is coming for Islam Makhachev! The no.1 ranked fighter in the UFC lightweight division recently took to his X handle to make his fellow competitors acknowledge – who’s next in line to fight for the UFC lightweight championship title. Although the Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended him after the UFC 300, his cryptic X post suggests the intention to challenge the champion!
“I’m the one fighting for the title next,” wrote Tsarukyan on Monday. The 27-year-old is on a four-win streak and wants to utilize his dream run by earning the gold. As he concluded his post, he had a message for his competitors, “The rest of you can take a seat #AndNew”
Notably, Tsarukyan earned his title shot at Makhachev after defeating Charles Oliveira at the UFC 300. Since he is on a six-month suspension, he can claim his opportunity as soon as the UFC 308 on October 26 in Abu Dhabi.
Why was Arman Tsarukyan Suspended at UFC 300?
Before his bout against Oliveira at UFC 300, “Ahalkalakets” punched a fan in the crowd. According to UFC president Dana White, the 27-year-old’s outrageous action could have caused some legal actions against the company. Although neither he nor the company faced any legal consequences, he still had to meet the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Tsarukyan was eventually asked to pay a $25,000 fine and serve a nine-month suspension. He was ineligible to compete until January 12, 2025. But after he signed an NSAC-approved anti-bullying public service announcement, his ban was reduced to six months, making him eligible to fight from October 12, 2024.
Arman Tsarukyan can face Islam Makhachev at UFC 308 if everything goes well. Interestingly, he made his UFC debut against Makhachev. Although he lost that bout, “Ahalkalakets” can settle his score when he next faces him for the lightweight title in the octagon!
