Khabib Nurmagomedov has undoubtedly put his native place, Dagestan, on the MMA map. His dominance in the octagon has cemented his legacy as the most dominant and the greatest Lightweight ever to grace the UFC. Nurmagomedov retired as an undefeated fighter in the cage after finishing Justin Gaethje in the second round of their fight.
The Eagle has taken on the coach role as he helps his protege, Islam Makhachev, prepare for his upcoming title fight in the octagon against his old rival Dustin Poirier. Khabib’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, recently made a rather heartwarming claim.
Ali Abdelaziz on Khabib’s father’s plan
Khabib Nurmagomedov has dwelled on the role his father has played in his life many times. When his father passed away four years back, the Eagle hung up his gloves after defending the Lightweight strap for one last time in the octagon. His manager, Ali Abdelaziz, revealed how Khabib completed his father’s plan after his demise. Ali said,
So many young guys coming. This is farm of warriors. Khabib Nurmagmedov gym. Abdulmanap gym.
Ali clarified that Khabib’s father, Abdulmanap, transformed Khabib into a warrior. In turn, Khabib is helping his Dagestani brother to become champion in the cage in the sport of MMA. Islam Makhahcev is all set to take on Dustin Poirier, Khabib’s old octagon rival, for his third title defense in the octagon.
It will be exciting to witness how Khabib’s advice aided Islam’s game plan. Nurmagomedov finished Poirier in the fourth round of their title fight five years ago in the octagon. It will be interesting to see what happens in the main event of UFC 302. Will Islam equal Khabib’s number of title defenses with a win over Dustin? Only time will tell.
